The Toronto International Film Festival just announced the first batch of titles for this year’s line-up and it was announced that “Brooklyn” will be part of their special presentations programme. Let’s hope Domhnall will attend the festival.
Plot: In the early 1950s, a young Irish woman (Saoirse Ronan) crosses the Atlantic to begin a new life in America, in this exquisitely crafted adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Colm Tóibín.
Principal Cast: Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters
The festival runs from September 10-20 and for more information be sure to head over to the festival’s official website.
Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed more details about the Star Wars Comic-Con Panel details.
First of all, the presentation this Friday afternoon will not include a trailer or any new clips of the movie. The next trailer will be coming in the fall, according to sources with knowledge of the project.
But don’t go hurling your cup of blue milk at the wall just yet. There will be other surprises.
Roughly six months before the Dec. 18 release, the Comic-Con panel will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the highly secretive film, which was completely locked down to press during production. (It’s still locked down. Lucasfilm and parent company Disney declined requests for comment.)
Director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy are already confirmed as part of the panel, which will be moderated by Nerdist impresario and Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick.
Although EW hasn’t learned just which of the cast members will be joining them, our spies say there will be several actors who haven’t yet spoken publicly about their roles venturing onstage in Hall H.
The official Star Wars site has announced that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is heading to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. One of the panels will feature “special stars” and we are of course hoping Domhnall will make a surprise appearance.

It’s all happening for Domhnall Gleeson. The 32-year-old lad from Dublin, and son of the great actor Brendan Gleeson (with whom he appeared, most recently, in 2014’s black-humored Calvary), has, for years, seemed to be a man on the verge of a major breakthrough. Starring opposite Bill Nighy in the much beloved 2013 Richard Curtis time-travel movie About Time, though, didn’t quite do it. Nor did his charming lead in last year’s seriocomic indie about a disastrous band, Frank (an underrated film perhaps best known for Michael Fassbender wearing a giant papier-mâché mask throughout). But running a Turing test on Alicia Vikander’s robot for Alex Garland’s AI thriller Ex Machina has gotten him close. Now it’s really happening and nothing can stop it. Such is the power of Star Wars.
This December you’ll have to be in a galaxy far, far away to miss the roar of Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it hits theaters worldwide. (Details about J.J. Abrams’s reignition of the George Lucas interstellar saga, however, are about as scarce as water on Tatooine, so Gleeson’s part is anyone’s guess.) The month following, Gleeson does the Wild West with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 19th-century frontier story of survival and vengeance, The Revenant. But first he will romance Saoirse Ronan in an adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s historical epic Brooklyn.

Various sites are reporting and speculating that “Ex Machina” is on it’s way to become this year’s Summer sleeper hit at the U.S. box office. Deadline is reporting the following story:
Amid the bang boom of Furious 7 dominating the box office again in its fourth frame with a $320.5M domestic gross, a cult film was percolating on the charts: A24’s sci-fi drama Ex Machina. The film posted the distrib’s best weekend ever with $5.44M at 1,255 playdates, beating the wide weekend expansion of its 2013 release Spring Breakers ($4.9M). Fans around the web are already heralding the movie as Blade Runner meets Social Network.
Ex Machina follows programmer Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson) who is invited to his reclusive billionaire CEO’s (Oscar Isaac) remote, high-tech estate for the week. Caleb has been chosen to evaluate and test Ava, an alluring robot artificial intelligence who proves to be more sophisticated and deceptive than either guy imagines.
On the surface, the film is apt to draw some comparisons to RADiUS teen horror film It Follows in regards to its indie hipness factor, enormous critical acclaim (each title has better than a 90% Rotten Tomato score) and the fact that they’re arthouse crossover successes.
Variety is reporting that Domhnall is in talks to join Tom Cruise and Sarah Wright in Doug Lima’s next feature movie “Mena“.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” actor Domhnall Gleeson is in talks to join Tom Cruise in the Universal, Imagine and Cross Creek co-production “Mena.”
If a deal closes, Gleeson would join Sarah Wright, who is on board to join the cast with Doug Liman set to direct. Brian Grazer will produce for his Imagine Entertainment along with Cross Creek’s Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson as well as Doug Davidson.
Pic is based on the spec by Gary Spinelli and follows Barry Seal, a TWA pilot recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America. Seal finds himself in charge of one of the biggest covert CIA operations in the history of the U.S., one that spawned the birth of the Medellin cartel and eventually almost brought down the Reagan White House through the Iran Contra scandal.
Cross Creek will finance the pic. Kim Roth will exec produce and oversee the project for Imagine, with senior VP of production Kristin Lowe overseeing for Universal. Jason Seagrave will oversee on behalf of Cross Creek.
Gleeson has a busy year ahead with both “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, both bowing at Christmas. He can currently be seen in A24’s “Ex Machina” alongside Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander.
He is repped by the Agency and Paradigm.
