It was reported earlier this year that Domhnall’s upcoming movie “Mena” has been retitled to “American Made“. The movie also got a new release date, on September 29, 2017. THR is reporting the following story:
Universal is pushing back the release of Tom Cruise-starrer Mena from Jan. 6, 2017 to Sept. 29, 2017.
The movie, directed by Doug Liman, is also getting a new title: American Made. The project reunites Liman and Cruise after making 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow together.
American Made stars Cruise as real-life American pilot and hustler Barry Seal, who ran drugs in the 1980s for cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar and was recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in history. (Cruise himself is a trained pilot.)
The film is financed by Cross Creek Pictures, with Universal handling distribution and marketing duties.
Universal insiders say the fall corridor, which is primetime for adult dramas, is a better fit for American Made.
Variety is reporting that Domhnall is in talks to join Tom Cruise and Sarah Wright in Doug Lima’s next feature movie “Mena“.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” actor Domhnall Gleeson is in talks to join Tom Cruise in the Universal, Imagine and Cross Creek co-production “Mena.”
If a deal closes, Gleeson would join Sarah Wright, who is on board to join the cast with Doug Liman set to direct. Brian Grazer will produce for his Imagine Entertainment along with Cross Creek’s Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson as well as Doug Davidson.
Pic is based on the spec by Gary Spinelli and follows Barry Seal, a TWA pilot recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America. Seal finds himself in charge of one of the biggest covert CIA operations in the history of the U.S., one that spawned the birth of the Medellin cartel and eventually almost brought down the Reagan White House through the Iran Contra scandal.
Cross Creek will finance the pic. Kim Roth will exec produce and oversee the project for Imagine, with senior VP of production Kristin Lowe overseeing for Universal. Jason Seagrave will oversee on behalf of Cross Creek.
Gleeson has a busy year ahead with both “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “The Revenant,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, both bowing at Christmas. He can currently be seen in A24’s “Ex Machina” alongside Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander.
He is repped by the Agency and Paradigm.
